andy_breeze This is new champeta with the soukous roots that landed in Cartagena, Colombia in the 70’s. These guys are geniuses! They gave birth to an urban genre with folk percussion. I love champeta. Favorite track: El Ñeke.

about

This song pays hommage to San Basilio de Palenque, the first free town in America. In the XVI and XVII centuries, african enslaved people fled from Cartagena, the biggest slave port in the Caribbean, and set up defenses to gain their freedom and keep their ways of life. Ñeke is a traditional beverage that lights up the human spirit and allows it to move forward embracing fear.
